The overall theme is “Earthly Treasures and Human Ingenuity.” Carefully curated displays highlight
the vast mineral wealth of South Africa and how the discovery of gold, platinum and diamonds
shaped its unique political history. See the fascinating story of South African diamonds, how
volcanoes brought them from the belly of the earth to the surface, how glaciers and rivers took the
gems to the Atlantic Ocean where, today, huge mining vessels suck them from the ocean floor.
